Review Phantom: Requiem for the Phantom

Phantom: Requiem for the Phantom

I am not quite positive that we can call this a single anime as it distinctly has three acts - each being quite different from the previous act. The animation style is very well made and although I watched the dub I found the voice acting to be quite good. With that said, I found the opening act to be quite enjoyable and the progression of the story and characters to be intriguing - it definitely drew me in at the beginning

And then the second act comes along and the story decides to take a detour to barely develop the characters or their motivations and introduces several fillers which the series could have done away with altogether. It's as though the writers had a really good story in the first act and decided to scrap it completely

And then came the final act.. Which was like watching a completely different anime than the one I originally started with. In fact the whole series was like watching three different anime with barely a thread tying them together let alone any cohesiveness left of the original storyline. And then there's the ending.. I won't spoil it for anybody who hasn't watched it but.. That ending. There's better anime to say the least and it is a decent watch if you are okay with three different directions. I wouldn't go as far as to recommend a binge but maybe one rainy weekend when you're looking for something new to watch it's worth checking out
