Review: Sword Art Online

Sword Art Online is about a VR Game whose creator decides on Day 1 of launch to not allow anybody to logout. It turns out if the VR gear is removed from anybody they will die in real-life and if they die in the game they will die in real-life. The only way to survive is for someone to clear the game and set everyone free

Sword Art Online

In the first season there's primarily two story arcs. I thoroughly enjoyed the first story arc which had just the right pacing of action and storytelling though character development was a bit slow usually just brushing over what complex relationships it could have achieved. I admittedly had a difficult time getting into the second story arc until about halfway through it where the main story really came together. Tying up both story arcs is a love story that is actually quite satisfying.

Sword Art Online Cast

Overall, it was an enjoyable experience and a nice change of pace from the too serious animes and over the top supernatural animes that dominate the genre. It could have done with a bit more comedy relief and spent more time on character development but if you're looking for a change of pace you can't go wrong with this one
